Teaching Philosophy

My teaching puts musical understanding and fluency at the centre of the learning process. Developing curiosity and the capacities of exploration are prioritized over the perfect execution of challenging written pieces. There are many ways to interact with music at the piano, including practicing pieces from a written score, learning by ear, sight reading, playing technical exercises, ensemble playing, and improvising. My approach involves all of these ways and more, according to the needs and interests of individual students. By absorbing the elements of music step by step, students gain understanding, appreciation, and deeper enjoyment of varied musical styles, as well as the capacity to sustain that enjoyment for years to come.

$50 per 30-minute lesson

$65 per 45-minute lesson

$80 per 60-minute lesson

The above rates are complete; no HST is charged for music lessons.
